The customer is the most important member of our design team. The needs and desires of the customer are paramount in the creation of a design that is unique and will meet those needs. Our design department is led by a registered engineer with a staff of trained designers who use advanced technology to design swimming pools.
We use Structure Studios design software ( You can see a demo of the design software HERE ). Upon completion of the design, we present a 3D rendering that accurately represents how the swimming pool will look. The software can even provide renderings that show how the completed swimming pool will look in both daylight and night.

Pre-Construction Requirements
After the design has been approved and the contract signed, we are free to begin the safety and legal processes of pool construction. We begin pulling permits (when required), contacting homeowner associations if their approval is required, checking and marking public utilities locations, and getting equipment staged for construction. If there is a gate or fence preventing open access to your backyard, these must be removed so that equipment can enter the area. If you are removing your fence yourself, your Bellagio Pools partner should be contacted when the fence has been removed. This is also a good time to cap off your irrigation system or remove any plants, furniture, or backyard items to ensure their safety.
Layout
Our trained crews will paint the layout of your pool on the ground according to the design and plans that you have approved and are part of your contract. Upon completion of the layout we will obtain your approval prior to digging. If you have been contemplating any changes, they need to be conveyed to Bellagio Pools prior to laying out the design on the ground! Remember, this is the last time you will be able to make any changes or alterations to the placement of the swimming pool, spa or water features, so be sure this is what you want!
Pre-Grade
If you have any grass or other vegetation to be removed, this happens next during the pre-grade process. The grass is dug out at least 4" to 6" deep. Any rock in this pool layout area must be removed as well. After removal, this material is taken off site.
Digging The Pool (Excavation)
Once the layout approval has been given, we will bring in equipment to dig the pool and deck areas. Construction access will be agreed to prior to digging. Staging area for material, equipment and supplies also will be mutually agreed upon. The pool will actually be dug about 6" larger than the finished dimensions of the pool in all directions. Forming material will be placed around the outside area of the pool. This ensures the bond beam dimension, which should be 6' x 12'. Unless otherwise discussed, we remove the dirt from the site on the same day it is dug out. If you have low spots in your yard or want to keep some of the dirt for any reason, let us know before the digging process.
Forming and Steel
Next we form and shape the pool in order to provide a solid foundation in order to provide structural integrity. We use #3 rebar throughout the pool structure. This rebar will be on the bottom of the pool and up the sides of the pool around the skimmers, as well as into the bond beam. Concrete spacers are used to insure the steel is not against the wall or floor of the pool.
Plumbing and Equipment Setting
The plumber will set the state of the art equipment per the plans and specifications, and a vacuum breaker will be installed at the water source.
Electric
Wiring will be run from your electrical panel to the equipment, then from the equipment to the lighting in the pool. Ground fault interrupter (GFI) devices will be installed for protection again electrical fault.
Inspections
Gunite - Now the fun begins. Our team of experienced contractors will apply the Gunite using high-pressure hoses to create the inner shell of your pool. Concrete is conveyed through a hose and pneumatically projected at high velocity onto the surface. This method of construction allows for greater creativity in design as well as enhanced stability and structural integrity. This method of shooting the concrete onto the forms allows for creativity in design as well as enhanced stability and structural integrity.
The pool shell has a 12" beam, 6" wall and 9" floor with an 8" transition. Water curing is a very important step in this process and is the homeowner's responsibility. The pool should be "watered" with a hose for 10 days, twice a day to enable proper curing.
Waterfall or Boulder Creation
If you have chosen either of these options, these are installed at this time.
Decking, Coping and Tile
This is one of the most aesthetically important choices in your pool design. Bellagio Pools has a myriad of top of the line selections for the homeowner to choose from. Tile selections include natural stone, concrete, brick, ceramic and mosaic. Coping can be crafted from natural stone, concrete, brick, or other materials. Decking will have a minimum 4" thickness, with expansion joints of the most modern material to control cracking of the concrete. Coping should cantilever 1 ½" into the pool. Depending on the material you choose, stone materials may vary in thickness.
Pool tile will also be installed during this phase. One row of 6" x 6" decorative tile will be installed around the pool perimeter and other areas indicated on the drawing.
Clean Up
All construction debris and mess inside and outside of the pool should be cleaned up for preparation of the plaster installation phase.
Fence Reinstallation
If a fence or gate has been removed, now is the time to reinstall. For obvious safety reasons, under no circumstances will we fill a pool until the fence and/or gate(s) have been reinstalled or that proper barriers have been installed.
Plastering and Pool Fill
Now you're getting excited as we are down to the last process before your creation is complete! Depending upon your choice of plaster during the design phase (Plaster, Pebble Tec, Pebble Sheen, Beadcrete, River Rock), this will determine the next steps.
Plaster - If you chose plaster, this is pneumatically applied in two coats, then hand-trowled to a non-slip waterproof surface. It is amazing to watch the contractors during this phase. During this phase, small colored tiles will be placed on the steps and benches for safety purposes. When the plaster is complete, the professionals will begin filling the pool. You must have a water hose available during this time. The water should fill the pool to at least the center of the skimmer, or in the center of the six inch tile at the top edge of the pool. Once it reaches this level, turn the water off. Please ensure the water is run the entire time until the pool has reached the proper level to ensure no "bath tub" ring occurs. It is also necessary for the homeowner to "brush" the pool for three to five days.
Pebble Tec / Pebble Sheen / Pebble Fina / Beadcrete - If you chose this option at design, this is a two-day process. On the first day, the product is shot onto the shell of the pool and on the second day the pool is acid washed. Immediately after the acid washing, the pool will be filled. As with plaster, make sure a water hose is available and fill the pool to the center of the skimmer. For this option, a slurry pit must left in your backyard for three days in order for the product to harden. If you are adding landscaping to your new backyard, allow them to come on the fourth day so that the slurry will be gone.
Start-Up - Training When your pool is complete and properly filled, Bellagio Pools will start your pool equipment to ensure everything is working property. Your project manager will schedule and conduct a thorough training session with you at a mutually agreed upon time date within 10 days after the final inspection. We will provide you with equipment manuals, warranties, pool cleaning tools and supplies, along with instructions for the proper maintenance of your new pool. If you desire, we will also refer you to a professional and respectable pool maintenance company.
